This Saturday at BPA, kick off 3pm, Coventry Rugby meet Macclesfield. Rugby Director Phil Maynard has just announced the Coventry team, which shows 5 changes from the starting line up against Cambridge.
In the front row Matt Price comes in as hooker in place of Dale Ager, who reverts to the bench. Prop Luke Beales , after his impressive 2nd half display against Cambridge, comes in for Tom Warren.
New signing wing Reuben Haile replaces Jeff Gregson , whilst Jon Lowdon , comes in at fullback, for Ben Russell who goes on the bench, again after his impressive 2nd half display against Cambridge.
Finally after a long detailed discussion Danny Richards comes in for Elliott Read as flyhalf. On the replacements Jamie Harrop , is recalled from his loan spell at Kenilworth.
beginning to see less and less local lads in the team every week, i count 2 starting and 1 on the bench, with the signing of this new prop i imagine Pateman will be the next to be pushed out.
Nash i imagine is here to stay, will he be the only one flying the flag for Coventry kids come the end of the season?
Obviously subject to availability and need but if we are going to gather loan players from academy sides could we not target players born locally? 2nd row Rob Wood from Worcester for example.
Any good side wanting to progress needs both.
Local lads have provided something which has been missing at the club for a long time. But I would still like to get promoted and talking to a number of players they still feel that wit this squad it's possible with a bit more stregth and depth that can't always be brought in locally at this stage in the season.
covkiddo, I don't want to name anyone but I want to re-assure you that the local players haven't been pushed out.
It appears those with potential have been loaned out to teams to get match time rather than being benched or watching the the team.
I have been told by a couple of these lads that they are being monitored closely by PM and the coaching staff to check on thier progress.
It appears PM is very approachable and supportive of these guys and will not allow them to go backwards in a team. If he sees or hears things are not going well then he will pull the plug and place them elsewhere.
I have been highly critical on this site about PM, but if he is doing what these lads say, then well done to him, because when the injuries come, and they will, then there will be match conditioned players waiting in the wings as cover.
