PHIL Maynard has warned his Coventry side they could be on the wrong end of a heavy beating if they repeat last weekend’s performance this Saturday.While the rugby director could not fault his team’s effort in the 26-0 defeat at Cinderford, he was critical of the direction in which those endeavours were channelled as Cov lost for just the second time since mid-October.

The former Bees coach felt his side was complacent against the Foresters having already beaten them 55-5 earlier in the season.

And he says he is looking for a response to that defeat that will repay the growing faith their supporters are investing in them.

“You can do two things after a defeat like that – you can analyse and it and be critical of individual players or you can put it behind you and learn lessons as a whole. We’ll do the latter.

“We have won games in this league and we know we can beat sides like Cinderford and Wharfedale but we also know we can lose to them.

“One thing is clear though is that if we play like we did last Saturday, this Saturday we’ll get beaten by 50 points.

“Hopefully, the fear of that will help us get into the right mindset for the game.”

Which is what they will need to be in against a team that despite well-publicised financial problems, has managed to hold its squad together.

They have done that to good effect too. Since losing to Stourbridge before Christmas they have pushed leaders Barking close and returned to winning ways at home to Macclesfield last time out.
