Fitness tests on key trio ahead of Macclesfield clash.

COVENTRY will tonight assess the damage to three players as they finalise their preparations for the clash with National One surprise outfit Macclesfield this weekend

Phil Maynard will run the rule over scrum half Lee Audis, hooker Matt Price and back rower Brett Daynes before announcing his side for the trip to Priory Park and a match the Blue and Whites must win if they are to halt their mini-slide.

Since the resumption of the league campaign Cov have lost their last two games and are in danger of sliding back towards to lower reaches of the table.

But they will need no more motivation as they head to Macclesfield than memories of their 40-12 humiliation when the sides met at Butts Park Arena in October.

That marked a run of seven wins from nine games for last year’s National Two North champions who stand fourth in the table and as one of the few sides to push both Cambridge and Barking close this season.

Maynard will be hopeful Audis has recovered from the groin injury that forced him off in last Saturday’s defeat to Cambridge. Daynes has made himself available to play after suffering a wound to his mouth that left him needing ten stitches to his bottom lip 11 days ago at Cinderford.

And Price, who hurt ankle ligaments against Sedgley Park earlier this month, could also be in line for a return.

Meanwhile, former Cov prop James Hall has signed a new two-year deal at Newcastle Falcons after leaving Butts Park in the summer.

The 24-year-old has impressed during his seven first team outings to date and has figured prominently in the Falcons’ European campaign, as well as featuring in the Development Team’s charge towards the play-offs. Hall spent a year at Coventry after joining from Waterloo.
