PETE Glackin has praised the impact made by Coventry debutant Jack Green who made his first appearance against Macclesfield last Sunday.The young centre stepped in for regular starter Nat McDonald at Priory Park and even though the visitors lost 37-21, Glackin was delighted with the comfort with which Green took to life in National One.

“He came in and played really well,” the backs coach said. “He has got good distribution and adds another dimension to our back play

“He is a good kicking option too, which takes the pressure off the half backs. We’re really pleased with him.”

However, the Warwickshire county player might have to settle for a place on the bench this weekend given the fact McDonald will be back in contention to face Rosslyn Park.

The former Worcester midfielder has not been included for Ireland’s Under 20 match with Italy and has made himself available to his club, although having represented the Irish at most other age group levels he hopes to get his chance at some stage in the Six Nations.

Green had been out of club rugby since impressing at Rugby Lions last season and has been training with Cov after playing for the Nighthawks in their post-Christmas game against Northampton Academy.

The club announced last week they would keep him until the end of the campaign.
