From there Park reeled off 17 points in eight minutes and while Maynard accepts it was another learning experience for his evolving side, he has told his squad they can’t keep making such important errors.
“We are a young side and young teams do that sort of thing – we just needed someone to run up, get hold of the ball and say ‘This is what we are going to do’,” the rugby director said.
“But we didn’t have that and while it is another learning curve for us we need to grow up quickly because we are in a very harsh environment where mistakes are punished.”
However, Maynard insists he is not concerned by Coventry’s slide back down the division.
Having started 2011 looking to break into the top six, the Butts Park outfit are now just three places and eight points from the relegation zone.
“I don’t even look at the table,” he said. “For us it’s just about concentrating on the next job in hand which is playing Barking on Saturday.
“That will be a difficult challenge but it’s also a real opportunity for us to make a step forward.
