PETE Glackin has praised hat-trick hero Tom Harris and credited the winger with scoring the try that turned Saturday’s topsy-turvy encounter with Redruth around.Coventry were trailing 26-7 with a minute left in the first half when the former Rugby Lions man beat three players to give his team much needed momentum going into the break.

Coventry came out a different team and when Harris grabbed two more scores within ten minutes of the restart the way had been paved for a remarkable victory.

Sam Herrington went on to bag his own treble and Coventry ended up securing their second consecutive win with by a handsome scoreline of 43-31.

But as pleased as he was with the whole team’s second half performance, Glackin reckons Harris’ moment of magic was the inspiration.

“It really picked us up and gave us some momentum going into half time,” the backs coach said. “It was absolutely critical and even though we were losing it wasn’t by that much. It was a superb try too.”

And for Glackin, who played with and coached Harris at Webb Ellis Road, the hat-trick was no more than he deserved.

“He has been consistent all year. He is very solid in what he does and has a lot to offer in attack and defence.

“It was a good reward for him because he has worked so hard this season. He has stepped up from the division below where he got 22 tries and already has nine this season – that’s no mean feat.

“Wingers will be judged on their tries but there’s more to it than that. Tom has been on a bit of a dry run but he was always contributing. That’s why I brought him across from Rugby.

“During that time he was unlucky, there have been a couple disallowed or the odd knock on that stopped him.”

Harris is sure to start against Wharfedale this weekend as Coventry look to avenge the defeat they suffered when the sides met at Butts Park earlier in the season.

“We’ve talked a lot this week about starting well, that’s what let us down in Redruth and we can’t afford to let it happen again,” Glackin said.
