But while Cov have been racking up the points almost at will, with 13 tries against Redruth and at Threshfield, they have also been leaking them at an alarming rate and they now have the second worst defensive record in the division. And while Harris doesn’t think the Blue and Whites have anything to fear in terms of a second successive relegation, he is frustrated at the number of mistakes that are hurting Phil Maynard’s young team.

“I certainly thought we were going to win,” Harris said.

“We were dominating them in the set-piece and throughout play but it seems to be the same situation every week, we leak 30-odd points in a game and no team can do that without losing a fair amount.

“Our defence around the rucks was poor, we were not numbering off as quickly as we should have been and the forwards were a bit lazy, in attack we can beat anyone – and we have proved that – but our defence is not good enough.

“It’s got to be an individual thing where we have personal pride and want to beat our opposite man. If they are getting over the gain line after contact they have won. The structure is in place, the coaches have done all they can to ensure our structure is as good as it can be.”

And Harris, who is expecting his first child in November, was also unhappy with his team’s place-kickers. Between them Ben Russell and Lee Audis missed 16 points with the boot and he felt that proved crucial in the final analysis.

“Some of them, to be fair, were easy kicks,” he said. “It is National One rugby and people have to step up and do their jobs. I know there is a lot of pressure on the kickers but they have to step up and get those kicks.

“Two of them would have won the game for us. It’s National One rugby and the lads have got to look after their individual skills.

“It is reality, you can namby-pamby around and tell them all the good things they are doing but it’s a case of being cruel to be kind and the truth sometimes hurts, you cannot hide these things in this league.”

Harris and his team-mates next turn their attention to completing the double over bottom placed Launceston at Butts Park this Saturday. The sides last met in November when Cov prevailed 36-23.

Before that, though, the second string Nighthawks face a British Army side at BPA this evening, which kicks off at 7.30pm.
