Maynard delighted with Coventry players' reaction at Stourbr

RUGBY director Phil Maynard expressed his delight at the way Coventry’s players reacted to recent criticism by battling their way to a 27-25 win at Stourbridge.“I’m pleased for them all after another great response,” said Maynard, whose side trailed 17-0 after 18 minutes before two tries in the space of eight minutes from winger Jeff Gregson put them back on track.

“People have been counting us down and out after a couple of poor results and the boys knew they had to put on a performance today.

“There was a lot of tension out there in both teams but we deserved to win on the overall balance. It was tight but we had a couple of tries disallowed which would have made it easier for us – that’s the way it goes.”

Added Maynard: “When you have got young lads there are always going to be peaks and troughs as they learn and gain experience.

“The atmosphere among the players is great and it’s good to see them smiling again.

“They will make mistakes but I’ve never doubted their commitment or effort and now we just need to work towards hitting a level of consistency.”

I understand PM being prickly about his young team, but we are not a kindergarden, we are aspiring to get this club back up among the elite. Being a nursery club wont do, we need some seasoned players in the mix or we will get nowhere.

Sorry PM.
