This Saturday 30th April kick off 3pm sees Coventry entertain Tynedale at the BPA, in Coventry’s last game of the season.  With Coventry’s position assured in the league for next year, after their close win away at Otley, they will be looking to finish the season with a home win looking for a top half position.

Tynedale, Coventry’s first opponent at the start of the season in September, when Coventry with basically an unknown squad lost 20-45 in an exciting game despite leading at halftime. 

Since then Tynedale have won a further 13 games and are presently clear in 6^th position on 73 points. They recently had good wins over Macclesfield and Cambridge, and will looking to do the double over Coventry, to make it three wins in a row.

Last season the Corbridge based side finished 6^th in the league.  Players to watch are fullback Sepp Visser who has already scored 21 tries this season and leading goalkicker, Gavin Beasley, who has recently been out injured.  Joel Hodgson the England U18 player has stepped up to do the goalkicking from the No 10 position. The Murray brothers, Jamie and Angus also caused Coventry some problems last time they met. 

Coventry will be looking to put on a good performance for their fans and put down a marker for next season.

Games preview 30^th April:

Blackheath         v   London Scottish

Blaydon              v   Otley

Cambridge          v   Sedgley Park

Cinderford           v  Barking

Coventry              v  Tynedale

Launceston           v  Rosslyn Park  

Macclesfield         v  Stourbridge

Wharfedale           v  Redruth

Another week and still the fight for promotion goes on as it does for the third and final relegation spot.

Key games at the top see London Scottish visit Blackheath, who gave unbeaten Barking a fright last week, whilst Barking appear to have the easier game away at Cinderford, although whatever happens on Saturday  the top position will still go to the last game, when Barking entertain London Scottish in May.

With Launceston and Otley already relegated the fight goes on to fill the third and final relegation spot. Despite Redruth winning last weekend they are still favourites to go down as they face a tricky away game at Wharfedale, a defeat for Redruth would relegate them, whatever happens elsewhere.  However, a bonus point win by them would put pressure on the 4 teams above them, but with all their rivals having games in hand over them, it does seem on balance that we won’t be meeting Redruth next season .

Another week and another set of results which still leaves the promotion spot wide open between London Scottish and Barking, although Barking have a game in hand over their rivals. Another bonus point win for Scottish but Barking had a more difficult game away at Blackheath, being unable to pick up the bonus point.

The battle for the third relegation spot also goes on for at least another week, and although Redruth managed a home win over Blaydon, they were unable to pick up the bonus point.

Good wins for Wharfedale and Sedgley Park , make them virtually safe with a game in hand over Redruth, whilst Coventry made themselves safe with their hard fought win at Otley. Blaydon’s loss at Redruth still puts them in the mix for relegation if Redruth can win this Saturday.
