The Coventry Rugby team squad to face Tynedale this Saturday at BPA kick off 3pm, has just been announced. It shows 7 changes plus 5 positional ones from the squad that faced Otley last week, which confirmed Coventry’s position in NL1.
Ben Russell has recovered from injury and starts at No 10 in place of Mike Walls, who reverts to his normal position of scrum half.
Jon Lowdon comes in as fullback in place of Danny Richards, and there is a positional switch between the centres. With Matt Price and Dale Ager injured Jamie Harrop starts as hooker, and there is a start for Sam Herrington, in place of the injured Andy Weaver. Matt Tibbatts comes off the bench to start at No 6, whilst Seb Pearson takes over Alex Nash’s role at No 7.
On the bench there are recalls for Luke Beales, Jon Pateman and Ryan Glynn.
Alex Nash has a prior committment at a wedding, which is unfortunate, as any player of the season awards (supporters or player nominated) would no doubt have included Alex in the line-up!
The player selection situation is indicative of our season.
What has happened to all this "local" talent PM wittered on about before the season ?
Its disappointing and will be my last game if things don't change in the close season, some may say good riddance but I wont waste any more time and money.
A team largely made up of local lads would have been relegated. That said, players like Gregson, Richards, Weaver and Nash have figured prominently and, on the whole, done well. There's no point in picking local lads for the sake of it; they have to be up to the job.
