Now that Coventry Rugby have completed their season in NL1, what follows is a statistical analysis of their record in this season 2010/2011. Coventry have finished the season in the top half namely in 8th position, with the news that Cinderford, the only side left who could overtake them having cancelling their final matches, together with Stourbridge losing on Saturday.

Winning doubles achieved over Otley and Stourbridge.

Losing doubles conceded to Barking, Cambridge, London Scottish, Macclesfield and Rosslyn Park.

With most of the team new to Coventry Rugby as well as to NL1, Coventry made a difficult start, especially away from home losing 8 out of the first 9 matches.

However their home form at this stage somewhat made up for it with Coventry Rugby winning 6 out of their first 7 home games.

Halfway through the season this form changed with Coventry finding it difficult to win here at the BPA, in fact only winning 2 out of their last 8 home games. It must be said that this period saw then having to face most of the top teams, and although losing, brave performances against the top 3 sides in the division namely London Scottish, Barking and Cambridge provided hope for the future as well as the rest of the season.

This second half of the season also saw better away form with the final 6 away games providing 3 wins and a draw, as well as losing bonus points.

The overall success rate at home was only 55%, but achievement of a realistic target of 80% would have put Coventry in the top 4.

Highest number of points scored by Coventry was 56 in the win over Tynedale, whilst the highest aggregate win was   55-5 over Cinderford. The largest aggregate loss was the home defeat by Macclesfield 12-40, whilst the lowest points scored was the 0-26 scoreline away at Cinderford.

The 2 narrow defeats against the then unbeaten Barking should set the benchmark for future success.

Goal kicking proved inconsistent with 5 different kickers used throughout the season. Even 5 more wins would have given Coventry a 50% record and a top 4 position.

Question marks should be made over the 111 tries conceded, but the corollary of that is the 113 tries scored, a high proportion brilliant in execution.

The closeness of teams in this league, especially say between Rosslyn Park in 7^th place and relegated Redruth in 14^th place on 62 points, was only 9 points, proving that those teams who can find a degree of consistency, especially at home will expect a top six position.

What became apparent throughout the season that this Coventry team never gave up; they had a pride in the jersey and were always capable of scoring tries. They were always exciting, never dull and entertained a supportive home fan base for most of the season.
