Coventry Rugby pleased to announce the signing of exciting prospect, the 20 year old lock forward Liam Mather, from Championship side Nottingham Rugby, making the 20th Coventry Rugby signing so far announced.
Liam, who has played for Newark RFC, and has represented the Midlands U20’s team, played last season for Nuneaton RFC on a loan basis from Nottingham Rugby. At Nuneaton he played 13 times as well as being recalled by Nottingham for the B&I cup matches. Credited with assisting Nuneaton to avoid being relegated, Liam has the opportunity to make his mark at a higher level and Coventry Rugby are pleased that another young prospect has chosen Coventry.
Liam, an undergraduate from Birmingham University, provides Coventry Rugby with another specialised lock forward, and benefits Coventry Rugby with more options in this pivotal position.
at 20, as a lock, to be part of a championship first-team squad, he must be a very promising young player, who is only going to improve. If we could keep this pack together for a couple of seasons, with the age profile (Warren 21, Parkens 21, Mather 20, Pelter 22, Weaver 22, Herrington 24, Miller 24, Daynes 24, Tibbatts 23 ? ..) it has a lot of potential.
It's always welcome to have bright young things, but it would also be nice to have a couple of gnarled and battered old things to bring a bit of stability. Anyone else know the story abot the young and the old buck gazing out over a field of does.
