Coventry Rugby are pleased to announce that Romanian prop Graur Catalin-Andrei has signed for Coventry.
Graur, aged 22, had a short spell locally at Kenilworth RFC last season, and recently Kenilworth kindly introduced him to Coventry, when he wanted to return to England to further his rugby career. Graur, played for the Romanian Premiership side Constanta, and has represented Romania at U 17, 19, and 21 levels.
He also played four games for Romania in the Junior World Cup Trophy in 2009.
Completing a degree in Sports Sciences, Graur could be described as a typical hard, large Romanian forward at 6ft 2in and over 18 stone. At the present time he is being put through an individual fitness regime by Coventry Rugby’s fitness and conditioning coach Rob Norman, but despite this Graur does confirm that he is enjoying the intensity of the training.
Graur will bring some much needed bulk to the Coventry front row, especially now that Coventry have heard that dual registered Tom Warren , will not now be coming back to Coventry Rugby this season, as Northampton Saints require him to obtain Championship experience, although Northampton will be providing Coventry with a replacement dual registered prop forward , details of whom will shortly be available.
It's a shame that Tom is moving away, but that's the risk you have to accept with the lamentable dual-reg system.
However, hopefully the big man can come in, get proper-fit, do a great job, and become a real asset to Cov rather than the Fancy-Dans down the road. (And before anyone bites, I'm well known for my occasional tongue-in-cheek take on things* ).
Good luck to TOM hope it is not to serious. Must praise the COV set up for bring in some decent looking signings. Hope we as fans can give them time to gel together as a team. But with twenty one signed from last season it is looking good. Seems that no position is down as a shoe-in this coming season well done COV. Even more interesting with the Henley College link up with Peter Glackin. Things look a lot brighter on the playing front for many a season past.
if saints are sending you another loosehead it will probably be a big lad called Ethan Waller
his older brother Alex (aged 21) converted from the back row and broke through past a big Currie Cup prop onto saints' bench behind Soane Tonga'uiha last season having played a couple of years at Rugby
Alex may well play for england in due course, but Ethan is a pure prop and apparently the best forward prospect we've had since courtney lawes - he's been playing adult rugby for 2 years while at school and the junior academy front rows get coaching from nobby west
so if it's Ethan, he's young, but likely to be a bit handy.
