Pete Glackin has praised Coventry’s try-scoring teen Andy Murray following the youngster’s impressive start to the season.

Murray has been one of Cov’s best players in the first two matches and has bagged tries in both, against Cinderford and Wharfedale.

In doing so the 19-year-old has made up for the absence of last year’s leading strike pair Jeff Gregson and Tom Harris, both of whom are out for the next few weeks with injury.

And Glackin admits he has been pleased with Murray’s progress since his summer move from neighbours Nuneaton.

“He has taken his opportunity really well with Jeff and Tom out of the side,” the backs coach said.

“He came to us as a bit of an unknown quantity, although it was obvious he knew where the try-line was at Nuneaton last year.

“He built his confidence through pre-season and peaked at the right time towards the end of it, against Newport and then against Cinderford when he was outstanding and played really well.”

Murray is still developing, though, and he has come to Butts Park as someone who can play either scrum half or out wide. Glackin is keen not to pigeon-hole him too soon.
