Results roundup week 5

A weekend of still defying the odds, with 3 away wins and one draw. A late penalty for Stourbridge saw them get their first win in defeating Birmingham Solihull, whilst it took a late score to deny winless Cinderford , a win at unbeaten Ealing Tfs.

Joy in the Fens as Cambridge managed their first ever away win at Tynedale

Fylde maintained their unbeaten grip on the league with another bonus point win overSedgleyPark, giving them maximum points overall.

Coventry, are now the only team yet to get any sort of bonus point, having come from behind to get a draw with Blaydon.

Macclesfield continue on with their good form from last season with a bonus point victory of over struggling Barking, Coventry’s next opponents.

The league table with Fylde, Ealing Tfs and Macclesfield at the top, show a slight gap emerging, with all the teams below struggling to find their consistency, or more likely proving how competitive this league is.

Coventry slip to 7^th place, whilst the relegation spots are filled by Cinderford, Stourbridge and Barking.

Week 6 previews

Two key matches for the 2 leaders this week, with Fylde facing a tricky visit even further north to Blaydon, whose pack gave Coventry such a hard time, whilst Ealing Tfs also visit the north at Wharfedale, somewhat lucky after escaping with a win against  Cinderford. Still  winless ,Cinderford, much buoyed by their narrow loss to Ealing Tfs, face a hard home fixture againstJersey.

Another key game is the improving Cambridge at home to 3^rd placed Macclesfield, both awaiting  for the leaders to slip up, a game which is probably too close to call, as are the remaining 4 games.

Another week of difficult games to predict, although it may confirm that Fylde are indeed out and out  favourites, for the title and promotion, despite their protestations to the contrary.

Barking v Coventry preview

Coventrytravel away for the third time this season, to Goresbrook the home of Barking, for this Saturday’s game kick off3pm.

Last season newly promoted Barking were the surprise team in the league only just missing out on promotion by leaking a last minute try to champions London  Scottish.

Since then they have gone through a traumatic pre-season losing key coaches Alex Codling and Kevin Sorrell. Following Codling to London Scottish were about 12 squad members, leaving newDORNeil Kersey and head coach Martin Jones, to virtually find a new team.

Key players  include centres Alex Dodge and Andrew Henderson (Jersey), Chris Ashwin No 10, and Steve Wood flanker (Redruth). Barking  have also recruited experienced No 8 Phil Davies fromPau.

Barking have struggled so far this season to get wins , having lost their last 4 games in a row, despite winning their 1^st game at home to Blaydon 28-26.They are currently in 14^th place 7 points and 7 places behind Coventry.

Last season Coventry had two close games with Barking, losing away 15-21 and even closer at home 18-19, as a last minute penalty was given away.Coventrywill be looking to avenge those close defeats.

Once again a close match is expected as Barking  look for a much needed win, and Coventry, as yet only beaten once so far, look for their 2^nd away win, and to maintain pressure on the teams above them in the table.
