Coventry Rugby week 16 results round up and week 17 previews - 17th December including Stourbridge v Coventry Rugby preview.

Week 16  results 10th December

Bham Solihull           3        41   jersey

The tie of the round saw Blackheath draw with league leaders Ealing.  As expected Rosslyn Park, Fylde and Jersey all had easy wins just behind Ealing.

Surprise losses at home by Cambridge and Coventry allows Macclesfield to improve to 5th place.

Further heavy losses by Bham Solihull and Barking keep them anchored at the bottom of the league, whilst improving Stourbridge managed a losing bonus away at Macclesfield, bringing them to just 1 point behind Cinderford, as a gap appears for these bottom 4.

 

Week 17 fixtures – 17th December.

Barking          v     Cambridge

Blaydon          v      Tynedale

Cinderford       v     BhamSolihull

Ealing Tfs        v     RosslynPark

Jersey               v       Blackheath

Sedgley park     v      Macclesfield

Stourbridge        v     Coventry

Wharfedale        v      Fylde

Tie of the round is Ealing at home to 2nd placed Rosslyn Park, another one too close too call.  Jersey and Blackheath of the chasing pack is also a crucial game.

Fylde face a tricky away games at Coventry’s victors Wharfedale.

At the bottom Bham Solihull face a relegation battle with cinderford.

 

Stourbridge v Coventry Rugby preview.

This Saturday 17th December kick off 3pm sees Coventry Rugby visit Stourton Park to face Stourbridge. Coventry will be looking for their first double of the season, and to arrest their worst run of results for this season after two straight defeats.

Stourbridge founded in 1876 hold the record of never being relegated in 24 seasons of league rugby. Under Director of rugby Neil Mitchell they finished last season in 9th place, but this season have struggled to find the winning formula, with only 4 wins, all over bottom half sides. They are currently in 14th place in the relegation zone, but only one point behind Cinderford in 13th.

Stourbridge have a large number of former Bham Solihull and Moseley players including Sam Robinson {Moseley) and  Nathan Bressington  joining his brother Ally in the centre.

Other players to note as former Coventryt  lock Robbie Hurrell who joined from Cambridge, and Ben Barkly in the  centre.

Prolific goal kicker Mark Woodrow must not be ignored, and the Stourbridge pack are always a handful with the effervescent Liam Wordley as hooker.

Last season Coventry completed the double over them and this season they defeated Stourbridge in a somewhat closer contest 22-17 at home.

Another close match is expected as Stourbridge look to climb out of the relegation zone, whilst Coventry need to get their season back on track after two flat and disappointing performances.
