The Coventry Rugby team to face Sedgley Park, this Saturday 7th January here at the Butts Park Arena, kick off 3pm, has just been announced.

It shows two debutants in the starting line up with Will Maisey coming in at No 10, in place of Elliott Read who goes onto the bench.  There is also a first game for winger Spencer Sutherland, who has just signed from Stourbridge Saxons, who replaces Mark O’Connor.  Liam Mather comes in at lock replacing Benji Dechartres who goes onto the bench.

There are two further changes on the replacements with Jamie Harrop coming in for the injured Matt Price and a first appearance for winger Tommy Harris.

Coventry Rugby are pleased to announce the signing of exciting speedy winger/ centre Spencer Sutherland from Stourbridge Saxons.  Spencer aged 21 is currently at UWE Bristol completing his law degree.  He has already turned out for the Nighthawks against the RAF, and put in a strong performance in the recent game against a NorthamptonXV, where his Premiership opponent Noah Cato was unable to score against him.  Spencer has chosen Coventry as he believes the club has aspirations, and he looks forward to playing as hard and as well as he can.

Spencer is expected to make his debut as Coventry Rugby faceSedgleyParkthis coming Saturday.

Good to see that Specncer is playing, hes quite a skinny lad, but he can move, and also tackled well when i saw him at the northampton game.

Surprised that oconnor has been droped completely, as i would have kept him in for his kicking in the absence of Myring, so thats a lot of pressure on Will's head for his first game, but again, he deserves it as he has also played well. Just think it would have been more prudent to keep oconnor around to let will conerntrate on playing no10 rather than kicking.

although up until now we've relied on players who aren't really genuine wingers. it would be good to have a couple of specialist wingers out there for the second half of the season.

Mark O'Connor is a FULL BACK Spencer Sutherland is a wing back with great aplomb, watch him fly. We need the experience of Ben to keep our heads. I would still like to see Danny Richards play at ten with young Lewis Barker who I think has made a big difference to the side this season. It is great to see some of our stalwarts on the bench and on the field, we are a bloody good side. Lets do it C'MON COV BELIEVE.

Zinzanh, i know that Oconnor is a fullback, and think he perhaps we should be playing there today. i know there is this thing about playing ben because of his experience etc but i would have prefered to have seen oconnor putting points on the board, as opposed to some airy fairy idea of russels experience, as im not sure ive actually seen that experience manifest itself on the pitch too many times, however i have seen oconnor put points on the board. Even perhaps he should at least be on the bench?

Easy in hindsight Nige H but you are totally right.The coaches made a monumental cock up.Mark O'connor should have started.We turned down an early kick for 3 points and a few more and then a late kick for 3 points to maybe earn us a lucky draw.An experienced man should have said kick the points.An experienced player should maybe have had the courage and conviction to show the kids how its done.

Titchy winger, your right, but the irony is the player that turned down the kick was not only the captain on the day, not only vaunted to be the most experienced player on the pitch on the day therfore justifying his selection, but also was the 1st choice kicker for cov for several seasons in a higher league!!!!??! Yet a VERY kickable 3 points was turned out at a key point during the game, which arguably could have lost us the game. Make what you want of the desicion to turn down the kick to stretch our lead to 5 points, but IMO it wasnt one of an experienced kicker doing a good job as a captain.
