Pair will make debuts as Coventry host Sedgley Park.

COVENTRY hand debuts to fly-half Will Maisey and winger Spencer Sutherland as they bid to get the New Year off to a winning start against Sedgley Park at the Butts Park Arena tomorrow.

Former Kenilworth colt Maisey takes over the No.10 shirt from Elliott Read, who drops to the bench, for his first senior start, while Sutherland – from Birmingham and currently studying at Bristol University – gets his chance at the expense of Mark O’Connor after a strong performance for the Nighthawks in their pre-Christmas game against Northampton.

One further change from the side that started Cov’s last National League One game at Stourbridge three weeks ago sees Liam Mather return at lock for Benji Dechartres.

“We felt we needed to freshen things up after three defeats and there is no time like the present,” said rugby director Phil Maynard.

“Spencer was with us at the start of the season, we’ve known of him for some time, and he stood out in the Nighthawks game.

“Defensively he looked after Noah Cato very well, which isn’t easy.

“Will deserves a start and we need an option to Elliott who has been carrying a bit of a groin injury for a while.”
