Alex Nash is ready for early comeback to Coventry RFC.

COVENTRY openside Alex Nash has revealed his determination to come back from a knee injury led him to remove a protective brace just a third of the way through his convalescence.

The dynamic flanker suffered a ‘bucket handle tear’ in his cartilage against Ealing on November 26 and had been expected to be out for several months.

The Warwickshire captain had surgery in early December and had been told to wear the brace for six weeks, however, in his desperation to play again he removed it after less than three.

And the only thing preventing him from returning to action has been the weather although Saturday’s cancellation of the Tynedale match allowed him to do his first contact session.

“Hopefully I’ll be in the mix for Macclesfield this weekend,” the former Rugby Lion said.

“About seven or eight years ago I had the same injury on my other knee and when I took the brace off there had been so much wastage that it was a long road back with rehab.

“My legs are pretty skinny at the best of times so I thought I would take it off. I did not want to lose too much bulk and I wanted to keep the leg working.

“It has repaired itself and I have been working the muscles around it which is the main issue. There has been wastage but not as bad as it might have been.”
