Up and Under with Coventry RFC's Luke Myring

ALONG with the sun, March has brought a real brightening of our season as we continued our unbeaten run with a derby win away at Birmingham Solihull.

This derby game was always going to be tight as Birmingham have also been on  a good run of late and have been closing in on us in the league. For the second  game running we got off to a storming start, stretching away to 13-0 and going  in at half-time 23-12 in front.

Birmingham then showed why they have been picking up results of late as they  pulled back into the match but we held on for another outstanding away victory – and with it exacted some retribution some past encounters.

A big thank you must go to our fans for Saturday as you turned a tough away  game into what seemed like a Blue and White home game.

This kind of show from all of our supporters doesn’t go unnoticed by the  squad and is a massive boost to us when we need it most. Your support, as  always, is greatly appreciated.

With the win also comes our safety for this season. We now sit 20 points  clear of the relegation zone with only a handful of games remaining and we can  now look above us again and push for a finish as high as possible.

Unfortunately I won’t be playing any further part in this as surgery last  week to put right an injury picked up in December has ended my season.

You have to think if we had had a little bit more luck this year with  injuries we would be fighting to win this league, not fighting to finish  seventh.

A while back there was talk of converting rugby into a summer sport here to  align our season with the southern hemisphere.

Summer rugby for me. I'd get to a few more matches that way!

It's a real shame that Luke has missed so much of this season. It really did have a very negative effect on the team's performance until lately (from the safety of my distant vantage point (Sm14) ).
I'm just hoping that he is going to be the first to sign up for next term (assuming he hasn't already!).

Summer rugby pah. Nice try Luke but have a go in the pack first and then see how good an idea that is. Tee Hee.
