Coventry Rugby face their longest annual trek of the season as they visit picturesque Corbridge to face Tynedale, in the lea of Hadrian’s Wall, in their third away trip of the season, Saturday 13th October, kick off 3pm. Coventry Rugby will be looking for their first away win of the season, last season they did the double over  the north-easterners with a fine away victory by 32-29, despite a late surge by Tynedale, which gave a somewhat false view to the score, the home game was also won by Coventry in a closer match 25-24. 

Founded in 1876, Tynedale, currently under Chairman of Rugby John Shotton and coaches Tom Borthwick and Ian Peel, are in 10^th place equal on 17 points with Coventry who are 7^th but with an inferior points difference. Last season they  finished  11^th with 12 wins and 18 losses,  this season they have like Coventry Rugby won 3 and lost 3. They had a similar large defeat as Coventry did to Ealing Tfs, and are yet to win away but have a 100% record at home. With home wins over Old Albanians, Sedgley Park and Cinderford, they will be confident again at home despite an apparent large injury list.

Last Saturday they will feel aggrieved having lost a close game at Cambridge deep into injury time as they did in their close away lose to Blaydon.

Pre-season Tynedale lost key players such as No 8 Sam Shires to Ealing Tfs , Richard Boyle lock to Rosslyn Park and the Beasley brothers. However they have close links with the Newcastle Falcons Academy and have approximately 6 dual registered players from there including centre Peter Weightman and fullback and goal kicker Chris Harris.

Key players coming in include Olly Steadman No 8 and former England u 20’s player from Randwick, Peter Moralee, who has already scored 4 tries as wing/fullback returns from Bath Academy.

Tynedale have been boosted by return of captain and centre and replacement goal kicker Jack Harrison after long term injury. Pace can be found in the backs with half backs  Matty Outson, Harry Peck and George Cullen, coupled with wingers Hamish Smales and Alan Rogers.

A difficult away trip for Coventry Rugby but they will be boosted by their most efficient and professional performance of the season in beating Macclesfield. For the first time this season Coventry have a positive points difference as well as a positive tries for column. Yet Tynedale cannot be taken too lightly especially with their home record. If they can get enough possession their backs will run it from deep, so after Coventry’s best defensive performance of the season last week may need to be repeated.

A win for Coventry Rugby could move them into a top 4 position their highest place so far this season, and put some pressure on the league leaders.

The Coventry side will be announced as soon as it is known later on in the week.

For those of you travelling North to Corbridge, look out for our Colts. Peebles Colts play Tynedale Colts in the the Border Semi Junior League on Saturday. Yes, Tynedale is so far North their Colts play in Scotland!

Give Cov a "Come on Cov!" shout from me, as I'll be in Edinburgh with Peebles 1sts.
