LET me start by offering my most sincere condolences to Jacques and his family. What I experienced last Saturday prior to the game against Tynedale was unbelievable and a true testament to what a loyal, honourable and brave man we have at Coventry.

For those who don’t know, Jacques received terrible news about his dad prior to the warm up of the game and, incredibly, wanted to play.

Not only did he run out, he had an outstanding game and played a large part in the 23-22 win. Jacques, the Coventry RFC family are all thinking of you and your family.

The first half went well with us playing into the wind and sticking to our game plan. We were direct and other than a five-minute period of pressure where Tynedale scored, we enjoyed the majority of possession and territory.

Going in at half time 13-5 up I thought we were in control of the game and could kick on.

In the second half we started with a few errors and this gave Tynedale field position deep within our half and to be completely honest they retained possession very well with multiple phases of play. We, however, were the first to score with Cliff kicking a penalty taking us 16-5 up. For the next 20 minutes I don’t think we touched the ball and when we did we didn’t retain possession for any period of time.

This gave Tynedale momentum and they started to put us under large periods of pressure resulting in a couple of tries. With five minutes to go we were 22-16 down and the boys knew that this was it – we needed the ball and we needed to put phases together in the Tynedale 22, and that’s exactly what the boys did.

it would appear we have lost the art of retaining the ball,this is a big factor that has dogged all the performances this season.Its quite simple keep the ball, retain possession, go through the phases.At this moment we just dont seem to be able to do this.

What a good posting by Scott. Thankyou. And what a very fair and honest reflection of the team's response to Jacques. Quite rightly, Scott uses the expression "Coventry family".
As a matter of interest, will Scott be doing these postings now, particularly in view of the fact that Luke is not captain - in fact not even playing at the moment?
I'm looking forward to Saturday's game. Cov have shown what they can do - now they need to reproduce it

How many times does it have to be said. Keep the ball and go through the phases. It achieves two things, the potential to score and secondly to deny the opposition the opportunity to do so. We have seen this from several teams of late, both last season and this, but we seem to think that playing for territory is the way to go. Bad mistake, as we learned from the Students, when it was a close run thing. Other teams have shown the ability to grind their way out of their 25 (Yes 25. I don't do those damn dots) and end up crossing our line. However, do we have the skills or the players to do these things? Perhaps Cov will surprise us on Saturday.
