Glackin urges intelligence and discipline as Blue and Whites

PETE Glackin believes the keys to stopping Coventry’s run of last-minute losses are intelligence and discipline.

Cov have lost in the dying seconds in three of their last four matches, a heart-breaking sequence by an aggregate of just five points.

As a result of being on the wrong side of the finest of lines so frequently, the coaching staff’s attention has turned to the yellow card and penalty count.

And in all three of the reverses by Richmond, Fylde and most recently at Macclesfield last Saturday, Cov have finished with only 14 men on the field as Heath Stevens, Scott Morgan and Bronson Ross have all been banished to the sidelines.

That has given their opponents the impetus to go on and snatch games Coventry have already done enough to win.

Which is why Glackin and his colleagues have highlighted the need for better decision-making at the most important times.

“We are trying to make the boys more aware of their own actions,” the backs coach said. “We are trying to encourage more intelligence in the process.

“There has to be a time and a place when we play on the edge of things and that’s probably not when we are in our 22. We gave Macclesfield six points in a matter of minutes because of penalties we gave away in our 22.

“At the moment those actions seem to be deciding the outcome of games, it’s hard because it’s not always the same person giving away the same penalties. Boys are being penalised and it’s cancelling out all the positive stuff they have done throughout the game.”

I'm surprised that Peter feels he has to point this out to the players. For players at this level it should be bl--ding obvious.
