Coventry celebrity Billy Bell is crossing the codes to help the city’s ambitious rugby club achieve their Championship ambitions – and he is urging fellow Sky Blues’ fans to do likewise.

Bell, who is widely known in his role as vice president of Coventry City’s Former Players’ Association, has agreed to become Master of Ceremonies at Butts Park Arena, starting at tomorrow’s match with Cinderford.

He will also become the face and voice of the club’s corporate hospitality and wants football fans displaced by City’s move to Northampton to help bring tier two rugby to the city while Steven Pressley’s men try to do likewise at Sixfields.

And he is also fronting up a promotion that will enable former City season ticket holders to watch the Cinderford and Henley games, tomorrow and September 28 respectively, at a cut price £7.

“Many people have been left with a void in their Saturdays,” Bell says. “And they are not prepared to travel to Northampton to watch City because they think the whole situation is daft.

“I’ve been to the rugby club a number of times and I’d recommend all those football supporters give it a try, I am sure they will find the hospitality at Butts Park second to none.

“I know the chaps who run the rugby club, they are good people working hard to make something happen and they deserve our support. We all want to see City back at the Ricoh but in the meantime we can help them.”

Coventry’s general manager Phil Maynard echoed those sentiments and said that football fans can obtain the reduced admission rate either by calling the club on 02476 231001 or by turning up on Saturday with their 2012-13 season ticket.

this is a great opportunity for Cov to re-awaken interest from the wider sporting public. Fingers crossed that we can make the most of the opportunity by producing winning and entertaining rugby, starting on Saturday.

excellent iniative by cov which also enables people to see that there is no charge for children if accompanied by an adult. win win all round for hard pressed families
