after ten-month injury lay-off

Centre Luke Myring makes his first start in ten months for Coventry tomorrow as they put their unbeaten start to the National League One season on the line at Blaydon.

The 29-year-old takes over from rested Barry Davies as one of three changes to the side that took to the field in last week’s 32-15 home win over Henley .

Matt Price starts in place of Chris Locke, who has a shoulder injury, while Danny Wright returns in the second row with head coach Scott Morgan stepping down.

A completely changed bench sees first appearances of the season for summer signing, former Wales international fly-half Matt Jones, and Greg Evans.

Ignas Darkintis covers at both hooker and prop, and there are returns for prop Andy Brown and back row Brett Daynes.

Myring’s selection completes a long haul back from a broken ankle, which curtailed his first season at Cov after just 13 appearances in which he scored 118 points, and a shoulder problem that limited him to five games last term, and comes after four outings from the bench.

“Luke is on fire at the moment and itching for a start,” said rugby director Phil Maynard. “He played very well last week when he came on for Barry after half an hour and it’s great to have him back.”

Cov are lying second in the table, a point behind leaders Doncaster, after four straight wins while Blaydon, who finished third last season, have picked up just one bonus point from four defeats. But Maynard is warning against any complacency for what he sees as one of Cov’s toughest away challenges on the fixture list.

“Blaydon are just having a bit of a rough start, but we know they are a strong team and a strong club who are always thereabouts in the table,” he said. “Crow Trees is never an easy place to visit, and this is a great opportunity for them to turn their season round.
