Cov’s record-breaking points scorer says that the players have a point to prove.

Skipper Cliffie Hodgson has urged Coventry’s supporters to stay behind the team for Saturday’s game against Wharfedale at the Butts Park Arena.

Cov’s record-breaking points scorer says that the players have a point to prove after last week’s setback at Blaydon and are determined to put on a strong performance back in front of their own fans.

“Stick with us and we will deliver,” said Hodgson. “We know it’s tough for the fans, and I do apologise to all those who travelled to Blaydon and saw what happened in the second half.

“The players are just as disappointed as the fans when we don’t perform well, and Saturday was a hard pill to swallow.

“It simply wasn’t good enough, but we know what to do to fix it and we are determined to go out and perform against Wharfedale.

“The important thing for us is to get back into it, get stuck in, and put on a great performance on Saturday.”

Added Hodgson: “It’s difficult to put into words how we all felt after Blaydon. We knew it was a difficult test to go up there and win, we did well in the first half and put points on the board, but we went off the game in the second half – it was simply not good enough from every single one of us and really, really disappointing.”

Hodgson was returning to the side after missing the previous week’s win over Old Albanian with a knee problem, and acknowledges that the club’s long injury list has had some impact on their start to the season.

"I don’t want to use the injuries as an excuse,” he said. “They’re part of the game and what happens. It’s the card we’ve been dealt and we have to adapt to it.
