The Coventry Rugby side to play Richmond away at the Richmond Athletic Ground with kick off at 3 pm this coming Saturday 31st January 2015 has just been named.

It shows 3 changes plus 2 positional changes from the starting line-up that had achieved the record breaking run of 16 successive wins with the win last Saturday over Cinderford. Cliffie Hodgson returns at full-back in place of Barry Davies, who goes onto the bench. At prop Chad Thorne replaces the unavailable Adam Parkins. At No 6 there is a positional switch with Sam Pailor going to No 8 in place of Jacques Le Roux who also goes onto the bench, with Luke Joseph switching to No 6 from No 7. Will Owen a Leicester Academy DR player, who is aged 19 and has just been selected in the England U20’s squad, comes in for his first start at No 7.

Making a first ever appearance for Coventry Rugby and named on the replacements bench is former Welsh 7’s star and full-back Martyn Thomas.  Aged 27 Martyn joins from French ProD2 side Massy having previously played for Scarlets, and with Scott Morgan at Newport Gwent Dragons. Before going to France at the start of this season Martyn was at Premiership side Gloucester Rugby between 2012/14 playing 53 games for them.

There are two further changes on the replacements with Beno Obano and Jake Farnworth both being unavailable, and replaced by Rikki Stout and Finlay Sinclair.

20 looks like the start of signings for next season to me. Interesting, as I'd expect him to expect to get rather more game time than Barry Davies when Barry retires.

The telegraph says that Adam Parkins has returned to Northampton for the LV cup game. I thought that Adam was now a Cov player and not dual registered. Anyway, good luck to the team for tomorrow and welcome to Coventry Martyn.

What has happened to Turner? Is he injured, or out of favour? He played very well at the start of the season

Yeh Martyn looks like a new signing, although no announcement so far, which is a shame.

I agree, i thought the infrence from what was written on here was that adam was a proper squad member not a loanee.

Good luck martyn and welcome (presuming hes a fully fledged new signing)

Thanks for the info Kimbo. Martyn looks like a great signing. Hope it's not just for the rest of this season.

This is about the stage last season several players were signed including Roan. At the end of February the transfer window closes so anyone signed after that wouldn't get a run out this season to see how they would fit in next season.

i think its also good to strengthen the squad to give us that extra push going into the last quater of the season whilst we still have a very good chance of promotion.
we wouldnt want our promotion hopes scuppered because of a few injuries.
Any decent new players we invest in now could help us into the league.

To answer TW - Adam Parkins is registered with Coventry RFC as a player. He is outside the age range for an England Academy player and as such cannot be Dual Registered.

Adam has presently been loaned to Northampton Saints.

Thanks for that Graham B. So the question now is why on earth have we loaned Adam out to Northampton? Surely Cov need him now for the vital games ahead rather than Northampton do for the low priority (for Northampton ) LV Cup. Baffling to me.

Graham B. Do you mean that Adam has been loaned to Northampton for just tomorrow or is it for a longer period?

Sorry to see that Scott is not available again this week.We need him now more than ever. Not only for his prowess on the pitch but also for his captaincy and influence upon matters on the pitch. Come on Scott.Rub those sore limbs and push us onwards. We're all behind you.

Re. Parkins: And this is only my take on it; I would imagine that Adam signed for Cov with a couple or three provisos attached (this is quite common in footy, e.g. 'you can sign this player, but he cannot play against us this season').
I suspect the first proviso is what we are seeing now, and he has been 'reserved' for the LV Cup matches.
I'm fairly sure that the second proviso will be that Saints have reserved first option on his signature at the end of his contract with us, and we'll see that come into play eventually, should they decide they want him back (which I'd be willing to bet a small amount on).

As I say, I'm mostly guessing here. Perhaps Graham can comment (if he is able winking smiley ).
