Third-placed Coventry face a daunting finish to the National League One season with four games to go all against the other top five sides, and three of those away from home.

But it is a prospect which head coach Scott Morgan insists his side should relish as they look ahead to mounting a real promotion challenge next season.

“Next year we are going to be even stronger, and that is going to be the message on the run-in and in what we do in the summer in terms of recruitment and everything else,” said Morgan.

“Come September, Coventry is going to be a team to watch – that’s what we’re building towards and need to keep developing and working on in the final few games.

”Even though it’s gone away from us a bit this season, it would be very, very nice to have a bearing on everything else that's going on, and that is our intention.”

Saturday’s 64-12 rout of Tynedale offered Morgan some pointers for next season as a first-half injury to Cliffie Hodgson gave an early opportunity for game time to new loan signing Scott Hamilton, while recent arrivals Mark Hodgkiss, Alex Woodburn and Darren Waters also had a chance to parade their talents.

“Cliffie has been absolutely outstanding for us and I hope he’s fine for the rest of the season, but we needed to look at Scott and Mark with a view to next year and it was nice to get these boys on,” said Morgan.

“The two 7s, Alex and Darren, have both been out for a long time, one with an Achilles problem and the other for a knee reconstruction, and have not played any rugby, and they did pretty well considering, so I was really pleased from that point of view.

“These are all guys we are looking at for the future to enhance what we are doing.”
