Week 11 saw 3 of the top 6 sides all surprisingly lose, which has enabled the top 3 of Hartpury College, Richmond and Blackheath to consolidate their lead at the top. Coventry Rugby by dint of another bonus point win are up to 7th, and more importantly just 7 points behind Esher in 4th place. Surprise wins by Blaydon and Loughborough Students have moved them out of the relegation zone, being replaced there by Henley Hawks and Wharfedale.

A theme of these weeks results were 6 of the ties involved overwhelming winning second half performances.

Hartpury College maintained their one point lead at the top with the largest aggregate win of the day over Wharfedale. Yet the home side were still competitive in the first half just 12 points behind including a penalty try. The visitors then took full control in all aspects of the game with 5 second half tries including another penalty try. Another loss for Wharfedale has dropped them into the relegation zone.

Richmond kept on the heels of Hartpury with a bonus point win away at Ampthill & District. Five second half tries helped by a match hat-trick by winger Charlie Broughton confirmed Richmond’s dominance as the game wore on, with Ampthill not helped by a worsening injury crisis both before and during this game.

Blackheath moved up to 3rd place, just 4 points behind Hartpury with a bonus point win over Plymouth Albion. The home pack became more and more dominant helped by a brace of tries from the ubiquitous Dave Allen, as Blackheath took full control again in the second half.

One of the surprises of the day saw fancied Esher come a cropper in the north-east to Blaydon, who put behind them the heavy defeat by Coventry to deserve this victory. Never behind in the game, Blaydon had to play the last quarter with uncontested scrums, but Esher couldn’t break down the home defence. This Esher loss drops them down to 4th place now 7 points behind the leader and with the chasing pack of 4 catching them up.

A team unable to take advantage of Esher’s loss, Rosslyn Park had their own upset to face as Loughborough Students beat them at home. Despite a narrow half-time lead thanks to a brace of tries from Hugo Ellis, the more effective game plan and expansive style of the Students, especially in the second half  proved decisive. Park’s defeat was not helped by a brace of yellow cards, as the Students took full advantage. This win for Loughborough takes them out of the relegation zone.

One side that did take advantage of the defeats of Esher and Rosslyn Park was Coventry Rugby who scored 38 points away from home in defeating a struggling Cinderford side. Three tries in each half gave Coventry a comprehensive victory, moving them up to 7th place, and more importantly just 7 points behind Esher in 4th place. This further home loss by Cinderford leaves them at the bottom of the league.

Henley Hawks continue to find this league a struggle as they succumbed at home again to Fylde. The visitors were able to shrug off a red card for Ben Vernon just before half-time and a later yellow card to hold on to a narrow h/t lead. A penalty try and two penalties sealed it for the visitors in the second half, although a late penalty gave Henley a losing bonus point but still drops them into a relegation spot.

The final game saw a comprehensive victory at home for Darlington Mowden Park against Hull Ionians. Four second half tries sealed it for Park with winger Peter Homan scorching over for 4 tries in the match. A win that moves Park away from the danger zone, and brings them within 5 points of Hull Ionians in 9th place.
