ONE city, two tales, more like. Wasps came to the BPA for the second time in the recent era, bringing with them a wealth of Premiership and international talent, expensively assembled, and sumptuously catered for on the back of generous funding from various entities.
Cov, the city's original club, were by comparison a rag-tag assemblage of youngsters drawn from various academies and clubs around the country, with a generous sprinkling of quality stalwarts.

That probably sounds like an insult to the city's senior club, but it isn't. Far from it. Cov stood proudly in the face of what was always going to be overwhelming firepower, and really, really, were not embarrassed.

But for a couple of held-up try attempts and a length of the field runaway Wasps score from a Cov overthrow following a spell of pressure (there were quite a few) the scoreline might have been a lot closer than the 31 point gulf that stood at no-side. And maybe being down to fourteen men for so long didn't help either, but that's really by the by.

Yes, the home side occasionally looked naive, and maybe a little shell-shocked in the face of several well-worked tries from the visitors, yet they never once allowed their heads to drop, showing that never-say-die attitude that translates so often to what is locally-known as the 'Cov Dog'.

Most of the pluses and minuses of the performance have been adequately covered elsewhere already, so there's no point in covering old ground here.

So, I'll just add a few pictures, and call it a place-holder for the next couple of week, when we welcome old friends and adversaries from Doncaster to commence the real proceedings.

Looking forward to that.

Note: There may not be an update to the site next weekend due to yours truly being somewhat nearer to Gloucester than Coventry next weekend.
