Speculation is mounting that ex-England tight-head and Cov old-boy, Rob Hardwick, may be on his way back to his home city and club.

Speculation is mounting that ex-England tight-head and Cov old-boy, Rob Hardwick, may be on his way back to his home city and club. The 36 year old former Coundon Court pupil was yesterday released, by mutual consent, from his contract at London Irish, and could well be tempted by a return to the midlands.

Hardwick, who gained his single international cap during his first spell at the club, is believed to be keen on a move back to his home club, and may well be considered a good fit in the blossoming new-look coaching team alongside former front-row colleague David Addleton - now forwards coach.

Cov fans with longer memories will no doubt be looking forward to seeing him 'putting it about' on the pitch though.

Hardwick, who suffered what was feared to be a serious neck injury early in the season, is no stranger to comebacks. Written off as a young player after badly injuring a knee, he fought back to make hmself a regular in a pack which featured fellow Cov-kid Danny Grewcock, plus Derek Eves, Julian Horrobin, Alan Sharp, and of course 'Aggie'.

The story was almost completed when Cov so nearly found their way back to the top flight in a play-off series with London Irish - ironically enough.

They obviously saw the potential, and gained a fine clubman who became a faithful servant over many years.
