Back to back engage Super League Champions Leeds Rhinos have today announced the contract extension of Head Coach, Brian McClennan. He agreed a new one year extension to his contract with the club. What a boost this should give not only the squad and staff, but the fans prior to the upcoming training camp and match in Jacksonville, start of the season and the Carnegie World Club Challenge.

All in the year of which the Rhinos hope to retain their titles.

In his first season, McClennan won the Carnegie World Club Challenge and engage Super League Grand Final with Leeds, and narrowly missed out on making the Carnegie Challenge Cup semi final. The former New Zealand boss will stay at the Rhinos till at least the end of the 2010 season.

McClennan told the official club website (leedsrugby.com) that he and his family are settled in Leeds, and also expressed his joy at being with the club for a further year, saying he was ‘proud’ to be involved in such a great setup.

“The contract is not something I was thinking about, I don’t think long term in that regard, but it is nice to know that you are wanted and I know everyone is doing their best to make the team a success. I will do the best I can for everyone connected with the club to achieve success in the coming years,” added McClennan

Gary Hetherington also spoke out:

“In the current ‘coach change culture’ in modern sport, it is good to have the type of stability that we enjoy at the Rhinos,” added Hetherington.
