The Unofficial Player Movements Article! (Pt 1)

June 1 2010

Summer months are about speculation, rumour and ill-informed guesses. You may say that this is no change from the other eight months of the year but it does tend to focus on player movements. Dragons’ Den brings you an unofficial round-up of the latest information – some confirmed by reliable sources the rest drawn from other forums full of speculation, rumour and ill-informed guesses…!
In

London Welsh have officially announced two new signings, both from near neighbours Harlequins. Josh Drauniniu is a wing who has also played for Exeter and the Navy and Wiasea Luveniyali is a Fijian international utility back who will bring pace and flair to the attack. Coach Danny Wilson has been reported as saying he is looking to sign another prop and a lock. Dragons’ Den understands that there have been talks with Charlie Gower who appeared on loan during the last season. Also rumoured to be joining are Vili Ma'asi (hooker, Leeds, ex-Pirates), Hudson Tonga'uiha (centre, Doncaster) and Liam Gibson (winger, Plymouth, ex-Newbury).

Out

The first loss of the close season was Tom Brown to the Blues (Cardiff, not Bedford or Newbury!). Chris Whitehead is moving to Premiership new boys Exeter, Dan George is moving back to Wales to study and will play for Carmarthen Quins.  Ben Gotting Robin Boot and Ben Thomas have all been released plus Neil Starling, Greg Evans and Ed Lewis-Pratt are believed to be looking for new clubs.

Dorian Williams is ‘retiring’ and he and his wife are returning Wales in time for their first child to be born this autumn. Dorian and his wife Lisa will be greatly missed and Dragons’ Den sends our best wishes to them for the future.

Staying

Matt Corker, the Supporters’ Player of the Season, looks likely to complete the second year of his contract and it has been confirmed that
Lorne Ward, Michael Holford, Rob Lewis, Nick Runciman, Paul Mackey, Aled Thomas and Dominic Shabbo will be turning out for Welsh in 2010/11.  Errie Claassens has also re-signed. Gordon Ross is in talks with a view to extending his stay at ODP.

Off the pitch the Club continues the search for new funding. Kelvin Bryon will remain as Chairman and his company will be a main sponsor. A previous ‘investor’ is set to return and help share the burden of bank-rolling a fully professional 1st XV squad.

Only three more months of speculation to go until the Championship starts all over again!

Yes I understand that the Ospreys have bought or taken control of London Welsh... the deal has been ongoing for 3 months or so...
So now you will be on the way up with the most powerful club side in Northern Hemisphere in your corner...[:wor kid:]
