OK, the yellow cards certainly did not help, but we could/should still have won, notwithstanding. To some extent, if you give a side with an effective rolling maul so many mauling opportunities around your 22, some quantity of yellow is more or less bound to be flashed. It was the errors which led to the attacking Jersey mauls which gave Jersey the upper hand. Many too many penalties in dangerous places, kicking straight into touch just outside our own 22, losing our own lineouts so regulalrly, failing to implement a plan B when our usual expansive style was not working. If we had amassed the points we should from boring kicks at goal, and looked for penalties and drop goal attempts instead of exciting tries, especially in the last minutes, we could have brought home an ugly victory. The perfect opportunity for a Steffan Jones 50m penalty but we just did not play the right game. We desperately needed someone on the pitch who could drive the tactical adjustments required (and a reliable kicker from the beginning).

Agree with all that AB. Being within a drop goal of winning, or that wind assisted 50 metre kick that never happened, why? The on field management was was not good at all. Taking tap penalties early on when the 3 points were begging was crucial. Those early (almost certain) points need banking, every time. Why try and out maul from a line out when your key line out jumper is absent and the opposition are experts at it? However, still a bonus point, which all things considered is remarkable.

Home side playing the Bedford way. I'd watch that everytime even with a few defeats. Carry on Blues.

Spot on mate. Jersey won the game and arguably may have been the better side in the 2nd half but they were so boring. I'm afraid I could not watch that dross week in week out.

So if we started to play dross you would go and support the Ath ? Oh god please can we play dross next year please. I am a Blues supporter through and through regardless on how we play. Players and managers come and go but fair weather supporters only stay if the team plays their way - is that what you are saying?

No idea what you are on about Garlic which is not really that unusual - all I am saying is I will support Bedford Blues regardless of how they play or indeed what division they play in as I have done for many years - yes I do have an opinion on good or bad pieces of play or players or management decisions - if that makes me a troll then so be it

I do not agree with people only supporting the team if the team plays the way they want them to play.

As for watch the Ath - followers of rugby watch all local teams be it the Ath ( who are playing well)the As who are also playing well never seen the Queens anyone know if they are playing well? The local papers never really comment

There's nothing wrong with a rolling maul, it's part of the game and we used it to good effect last week. England also used it when we smashed the smelly socks. However it's boring and if we decided to play that way week in and week out then yes I probably would go and watch someone else. I suspect a lot of other people would as well.

Fortunately we have a coaching team that believe in playing an entertaining style of rugby. It doesn't always come of but at least we're entertained. We've had a couple of tough seasons but the management stuck to their principles. The crowds didn't really drop off so the comment about fair weather fans doesn't stack up.

Forget the fair weather fans jibe IB it is purely misdirection in an attempt to pull us all on to the BFY narcissistic agenda.

Back to the discussion; the Blues coaches as you rightly say have steered the style of play in the direction that provides the rugby we love to see; all on this forum will agree with that. I know that the same coaches were not happy with the performance on Saturday as the on field management and individual decision making was poor. As I said we all love running rugby; but not headless chicken running rugby. As we witnessed, it comes unstuck against well drilled (however boring) sides like Jersey and Doncaster.

Mike and the team will work on the root causes and we will move on and up, starting at Rotherham a week on Saturday.

Yet we beat Bristol and Yorkshire by playing that way.

We're struggling at the moment at 2nd row and I am very surprised we haven't recruited cover whilst our 2 injured players recover.

Not by the way we played Saturday TB. A couple of similar repeats will jeopardise our playoff chances for sure.

Mike Howard should be back for Rotherham, Mark Flanagan in about 3 weeks, I reckon.

I didn't see the game, but others we've kept the tempo high by taking quick taps to wear out massive packs.

You miss seeing a lot of games TB, for someone that claims to know more than the rest of us!

2 home games I don't consider a lot! By the sound of it, it was a good one to miss otherwise I'd be incredibly frustrated! I try and get to a few away games at least but have only been able to make 1 so far!
