As Sarries discovered unbeaten Pirates are incredibly strong in their own lair so we must take hart for a strong show from the Blues in the 27-12 defeat.

The home side made the most of their chances after going behind to a Rich Lane try. The full back picking up a loose ball in his own half to give us a superb start.

Sadly, we couldn't add to that in the first half with Pirates coming back to cross the line four times to give themselves a bonus point, and a 22-7 led at the interval.

It was more even after the break with Pirates only managing to add a try from a line-out.

Mike Rayer had bravely put on  five replacements all at once - including a new front row. We eventually got our reward when Jacob Fields got our second after 72 minutes - also from a driving line-out.

Jersey Reds at home next week.
