England Women’s Rugby star Margaret Alphonsi has been honoured with an MBE (Member of the British Empire) in the Queen’s Birthday Honours list.  Alphonsi awarded a MBE

London Welsh’s appeal against the decision that the club failed to meet the Minimum Standards Criteria, set out by the Professional Game Board, for promotion to the Aviva Premiership has been upheld by an independent panel. As a result, London Welsh are promoted to the Aviva Premiership and Newcastle Falcons relegated to the RFU London Welsh appeal outcome

The number of people playing rugby union in England grew by 26,000 in the year to April 2012 according to figures released by Sport England's Active People Survey (APS) records that participation increased in each of the last four quarters from 170,300 to 196,300 and that the Rugby Football Union is on track to meet growth targets.  Rugby participation in England up by 26,000
