Thank you for this little masterpiece of it's genre. It did touch a nerve because I have recently taken to checking our result 10 minutes after the game finishes rather than listening to the commentary ,for the same reason. It's oddly comforting to welcome others to the Asylum.

What was the equally silly ritual that followed finger taping?

What precautions will you take when you decide to watch a game? Will you tape up your fingers?

I'm pretty sure it was being last out the changing room, followed by a sprint across the pitch on my own before kick off.

I might tape my fingers up (spoiler, next Saturday )

LI Bohemian, I’m with you. Being a “country boy” I’m full of superstition; saluting Magpies, cussing black cats in my path, avoiding walking under ladders, red sky in the morning (and seeing Aer Lingus planes fly over SW London especially at the Stoop).
But… but… this season I no longer worry. This team/coaches/club are playing with such style and fearlessness that my demeanor is cooler than ice cold.
I’ve followed Irish for 20 odd years and have never seen such consistent believe, especially when down a few point, to be able to come back from adversity.

Its interesting how self belief makes all the difference. I was chatting to a couple of the players and one noted that for the first time in his career he is playing with a team that knows that they can beat anyone. They are aiming for finals to a man in the squad which is a massive psychological change. Winners are grinners I suppose.

My honest believe having bought my season ticket for Reading 2001. I never expected Irish to be great, I just wanted to reconnect with rugby and my Irish roots. It has been a rollacoster ride over the last 20 years. With the failure of other Exile teams I was always lacking in confidence of their survival, but many thanks to Mick and his associates for their continual investment and support for Irish rugby identity in England. I played gailic football as a youngster in Gloucestershire in the 60s left in the 70s for working overseas, came back in the 90s and found a team I could support. I love Rugby and emotionally attached to Ireland. They are now the most complete and best Irish squad in my 20 odd years, IMHO. So let's just say COYI for the next 20 years.
