Despite our recent good form we will need to be at our best to overcome an Ampthill side who ran 2nd placed Bedford last week.
Hopefully being at home and displaying the same energy and attitude of last week will be enough to get us the win in our pursuit of a top 4 finish.
Pirates 38- Ampthill 33
The pirates staged an incredible fightback to take the win and all 5 points after being 23-7 down after 30 minutes.
The pirates scored early but then struggled to maintain their early momentum against a very big, physical Ampthill pack.
2 quick tries just before the break brought the pirates back into the game to go in at half time 21-23.
The pirates dominated territory and possession in the 2nd half to lead 38-28 after periods of sustained pressure where despite repeated infringements Ampthill were lucky not to lose a man to the bin. Ampthill eventually got into the pirates 22 and scored a try in the last few minutes to take a well deserved 2 points.
A very relieved home crowd of 1560 cheered as the pirates forced Ampthill back towards their own line at the final whistle.
Huge congratulations to the whole squad and coaches for all their efforts today in a very physical match.
A special mention to our young and inexperienced front row who dug in against a bigger and more experienced opponent and our back row who were everywhere in defence and attack.
Hopefully the pirates can recover sufficiently before they make the long trip to Doncaster who are also pushing for a top 4 finish after a run of 8 consecutive wins.
