Rodney Parade

The Celtic Crusaders have controversially announced that this season’s home clash against the Leeds Rhinos will be played at Rodney Parade; home of the Newport Gwent Dragons RU outfit. The Super League champions visit South Wales on August 22nd; but their large band of travelling fans will visit the city of Newport rather than Cru's familiar surroundings of Bridgend.

Following the announcement, Cru's chief executive Mike Turner said: "It was always part of our Super League application that we take games on the road so we are delighted to take the Leeds Rhinos game to Newport."

"We already have a strong association with the Newport Gwent area. A large percentage of our fans come from the Newport or Gwent area so we're pleased that they can now see a Crusaders' game on their own doorstep."

The club are looking at taking other games on the road in the forthcoming seasons with the Welsh capital of Cardiff an obvious choice. The Arms Park and the new 'Cardiff City Stadium' are rumoured to be mooted as possible venues for a Super League match.

The decision has caused a degree of controversy with Cru's support with supporters divided on the issue. Head over to our messageboard to give your views on the club's decision to go "on tour".

Critics will surely point to the case of South Wales RLFC - the short-lived, ill-fated RL club set up in the mid-1990s. They played their home games at a host of venues across South Wales and became known as the "Nomads" and were soon disbanded.

However, those in favour will claim that such a move will help the club's exposure and could generate significant interest in the Saders and rugby league across the South Wales region.
