30-0 Saints

Saint Helens secured their 150th Super League win on Friday evening with a 30-0 victory over the Celtic Crusaders. Despite a dogged display from John Dixon's men, the Merseyside club cruised to victory with the result effectively sealed by the half-time interval. 8,684 were in attendance. The Saders were beaten by only four points to nil by Saints earlier in the season - but any chance of John Dixon's men running the Merseyside club so close this time around looked over by half-time as tries from Lee Gilmour, Paul Wellens, Tony Puleta and Matt Gidley gave the hosts a commanding 24-0 advantage.

Saders were better after the interval and were only six minutes away from keeping their more illustrious opponents out for the entirety of the second period. Cru were dogged and determined but could do little to stop Chris Dean steaming over in the left corner with Sean Long converting for the fifth time of the evening.

After eighteen games, the Saints sit four points clear of Leeds at the top of the Super League. Dixon's Saders remain six points adrift of Salford at the bottom but will be looking forward to two massive home games against Warrington and the City Reds in the next couple of weeks.

I have watched the highlights a couple of times on SL TV - and there were some defensive errors which helped Saints.

Still bring on the Wire....
