Beaten at the KC

The scoreline flattered hosts Hull – but the Saders’ fierce critics will only look at the fact that John Dixon’s men slumped to a 22-6 defeat on Friday evening at The Circle. The South Walian outfit led 6-4 in the closing stages before the Black & Whites ran over three late tries.

Dixon's men battled hard and for long periods were the better side of a very poor affair.

The first-half looked like ending without a single point before the home side took the lead with the final attack of the opening forty minutes. Craig Hall touched down about fifteen minutes inside the touching; though Danny Tickle's missed conversion meant Cru only trailed by four points at the break.

Struggling Hull were poor and Cru punished them for obvious complacency as they took the lead after the interval.  Jason Chan powered over the line and Damien Quinn added the extras and suddenly the 15 or so away fans sensed an upset.

It was on the cards until the seventieth minute when fatigue set into the Cru camp. Gareth Raynor's try and Tickle's boot edged Hull four points clear and suddenly the Saders flopped. The body language was one of defeat and scores from Mark Calderwood and Josh Cordova followed as a Hull late show gave them a flattering win that was scarcely deserved.

This was bitterly disappointing stuff at the JC Stadium - and another example of the lads failing to compete for a full eighty minutes. Despite Salford's defeat at home to Castleford, we now look certain to finish with the wooden spoon. Next up, it's the Bradford Bulls as Dixon's XIII look for a super double over the world-famous South Yorkshire club.
