Tickets go on sale today for the Investec Super Rugby match between the Crusaders and Sharks to be held at Twickenham Stadium on Sunday March 27, 2011 (4pm). Tickets go on sale today for the Investec Super Rugby match between the Crusaders and Sharks to be held at Twickenham Stadium on Sunday March 27, 2011 (4pm). Tickets can be purchased online via rfu.com/tickets or by telephone 0844 847 2492 from 4pm today and £5 from each ticket sold will go to the charity. Tickets are priced at £50, £40 and £30 and will be half price in all areas for under 16s. Christchurch is the home of the Crusaders and the earthquake left their AMI stadium damaged. The Rugby Football Union is delighted to be able to offer support to the Crusaders and hope that rugby fans will be keen to make the most of this unique rugby spectacle and the opportunity to reach out to the people of Christchurch. Investec Super Rugby is the southern hemisphere’s premier club competition and features the five top teams from each of Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. This will be the first Investec Super Rugby match ever to be staged outside its home nations.
RFU Chief Executive, John Steele, said: “Having some of the southern hemisphere’s best players on display at Twickenham will be a treat for all English based fans of Investec Super Rugby. “It is great to see the rugby family pull together for such a worthy cause and we would like to thank all our stakeholders for their flexibility and support in making this happen. “We now have less than two weeks to get tickets sold so we would urge supporters to get online and buy soon.” The Sharks currently top the Investec Super Rugby table with the likes of Jannie du Plessis, Willem Alberts and Bismark du Plessis; while the Crusaders will be bringing a squad full of All Black talent including Dan Carter and Sonny Bill Williams.
Looking forward to the prospect of such a show case, Dan Carter said: “This is our chance to give something back to our close knit community which has been horribly impacted by recent events. We hope we can make a small difference. “We are really looking forward to playing this match at Twickenham. It is a wonderful stadium and those of us that have played here before always enjoy it. “It will be unique experience to play out of the home dressing room in what is a must win game for us in this regular season Investec Super Rugby match. Dan Carter in action against the Sharks
Plans for the Investec Super Rugby clash between the Crusaders and the Sharks at Twickenham Stadium, which kicks off at 4pm on March 27, are firming up well.
As well as lining up a showcase of Southern Hemisphere rugby, where the likes of Dan Carter and John Smit will be on show, there will be an antipodean themed feel to the West Car Park where boerewors, steak pies and beer will be the order of the day.
With ticket sales steadily increasing, the middle tier of the stadium has been opened and more £30 and £50 tickets go on sale this evening. If tickets continue as trending there is a chance that Twickenham could play host to the biggest ever Super Rugby crowd, the record currently stands at 54,000 in Pretoria, which would be a great achievement and demonstration of support for the cause
The goodwill that has been seen throughout the organisation process is spreading fast and singers Geoff Sewell of Incognito and Hayley Westenra will peform at Twickenham for the big game. Both of whom are giving up their time and talents for free to give the Red Cross Earthquake Appeal a real boost .
Geoff Sewell, now based in London, is a professional tenor and multi-platform selling recording artist with over 3.5million album sales worldwide. Regarded as one of New Zealand’s finest exports, Geoff is honoured to have been asked to sing the National Anthems on Sunday and relishes the opportunity to support the Red Cross Christchurch Earthquake Appeal.
Half time will see the Christchurch born soprano, songwriter and UNICEF Ambassador Hayley Westenra take to the stage. A star from a young age, Hayley was only 16 when her debut album, Pure, reached No. 1 on the UK classical charts in 2003. Hayley only recently returned from New Zealand where she sang at the National Memorial for those who tragically lost their lives in last month’s earthquake. Deeply moved having seen the devastation to her beloved home town, Hayley is honored to again lend her support for the people of Christchurch.
With the Crusaders landing tomorrow (Tuesday), their match preparations are well underway. Support in the capital city has been fantastic from the Chiswick Moran, who welcome the Sharks to their hotel free of charge, to the historic HAC Ground who are making their pitch available for the Crusaders’ training schedule in the latter part of the week. The Marriott hotel on Chancery Lane have also been extrememly accommodating, offering a great rate for the Crusaders party.
Tickets can still be bought on www.rfu.com/tickets and there are half price tickets for U16s.
Seems a little odd, but perhaps they know what is best. It is the Crusaders who have to travel accross 12 hours time change, the Sharks are within an hour of London's time.

Dan Carter poses at Twickenham
Crusaders fly half Dan Carter has said that he's expecting a tough game when his side take on South African Investec Super Rugby opponents the Sharks at Twickenham Stadium on Sunday, kick off 4.00pm.
Tickets are still available for the first ever Investec Super Rugby game to be played outside of the Southern Hemisphere and can be purchased at RFU.com/tickets. Prices range from £30, £40 and £50 with £5 from each ticket sold going to the Red Cross Earthquake Appeal.
Speaking about the game, 29-year-old Carter is anticipating a physical encounter, and said: “They are a team full of big, fast men and it will be a very tough match. They have strengths across the park but we’ve prepared well for them.
"We are all looking forward to playing at Twickenham - it’s easy to get excited about this one. We're hoping that there's a big crowd at the stadium so i'd urge fans not to leave it until the last minute and get their tickets now.”
Crusaders head coach Todd Blackadder added: “We have trained well here in London all week and now we want to replicate that against the Sharks at Twickenham on Sunday.
“It will be a big test for us, but I’m confident we can put in a performance to be proud of. We’re looking forward to playing in front of a big crowd – the atmosphere and sense of occasion should be superb.”
The in-form Crusaders have convincingly won their last three games of their Investec Super Rugby campaign and will be looking to make Twickenham their fortress against a team who have not beaten them since 2007.
But with some of rugby’s biggest names gracing the turf this Sunday it is guaranteed to be a master class in fast flowing, expansive rugby.
* Investec Super Rugby consists of the top five teams from NZ, SA and Australia. This is not only the first game to be played outside the SANZAR nations but has the potential to thebe largest crowd to at a Super Rugby game if ticket sales reach 55,000, the current record stands at 54,000 set in Pretoria
* The Crusaders’ AMI stadium was damaged in the Chirstchurch earthquake so the decision was made to play at Twickenham to raise money for the appeal
