The man who gave Dean Ryan his chance as a coach at Gloucester expects the Kingsholm head coach to lose his job before the start of the new season. Nigel Melville has kicked rumours that he is about to return to the UK at either Wasps or Glaws into touch, but he does expect the Gloucester fans to get their way and Ryan to be booted out.
Currently boss of USA Rugby, Melville makes the claim in his own online blog.
He writes: “I caught up with Dean Ryan, former coaching colleague, friend and current Director of Rugby at Gloucester. Dean is under fire for a poor season - the Gloucester faithful want him out and I suspect they will get their way.
“Imagine the faces of some of the local supporters as Dean and I walked into the coffee bar - guess what - I was on my way back to Gloucester.”
He claims that during a short visit to the UK to renew his US visa and to attend a function at his son’s school in Cheltenham, Melville was also linked with jobs at Wasps and Llanelli.
He added: “Humans cannot help putting two and two together and making five - especially at this time of year in the UK … I have a job to do here in the USA. I will not be going anywhere until my contract expires in 2011.”
If you want further proof that he isn’t heading home, he spells the word rumours as “rumors”.
Say no more.
