Big Les - likes Leeds

It’s a bit early in the season for make-or-break games, but it’s difficult to find another way to describe Gloucester’s Guinness Premiership visit to Leeds on Sunday. With one win out of four and luck not exactly on their side, Glaws are in trouble – but not as much as winless Leeds, bottom of the table and by all accounts not playing well on their return to the top flight. But at least there’s been some good news for Glaws in the build-up to the game with Lesley Vainikolo now clear of the assault charge that has been hanging over him for months, and Gareth Delve’s ban reduced by a week.
In fact, Big Les’s good news has come at a good time, because he has been showing something like his real form this season and we predict that he could show his real worth to the club this season.
He burst onto the RU scene with a spectacular scoring display against Leeds (right), and it would be great for him and Glaws if he could repeat something like that this season.
Given the ball, he can create scores either for himself or for others and after what he has gone through since joining Glaws, he must be busting a gut to get his career back on track.
Coach Bryan Redpath will certainly be hoping so because Les can be one of his main weapons as he looks for a way out of his team’s shaky start to the season.
He told the Citizen: “He's performing better every week. In the next month I expect him to be another 20 per cent better because he can focus on rugby.
"He's come back from a bad injury too. A ruptured Achilles for a man the size and power of Les is tough to come back from and he'll take time to come back to his best."
At Leeds, a win is vital if Glaws are to rescue their season after the start they’ve had. Anything less would be a major blow and would surely set the alarm bells ringing at Kingsholm.

It is early in the Season to be saying it but Sunday is an absolutely massive game and one Glaws really need to win. Glaws need to improve again from the Sarries game and get themselves some momentum going into the HEC because Newport will really fancy their chances.

Although your review of that woeful game is accurate, I think (hope?) you'll find that Leeds are a better side this year.

It will be interesting to see who fronts up to Les, but this season we have a few choices in that department, so I don't expect him to shine as much as he did on that momentous day.
