LV= Cup draw gives Glaws semi-final chance

Coach Bryan Redpath says Gloucester’s LV= Cup fixtures for the new season are tough ones, but he would say that, wouldn’t he? We are not trying to suggest they are going to be easy, but let’s be honest, they could be a lot worse.

The two more difficult games are against London Irish and Saracens, but Glaws are at home for them, while the away games are against Leeds and Newport Gwent Dragons.
Surely, if Redpath had been told they were the four fixtures, he would have chosen those venues.

Glaws go to Newport in the first weekend of November and a week later are at home to Sarries.
The game at Leeds is in the last weekend of January, with Irish coming to Kingsholm in the last pool game a week later.
Having reached the final in the last two seasons, losing to Cardiff and Northampton, Glaws will surely feel they can progress from their pool.

Redpath told the Ctriizen: "It's a tough draw but the format of the competition means that you're always in with a chance of making the knockout stages.

"We lost our first two group games last season but bounced back with two improved performances and made the semi finals.
"With Heineken Cup qualification up for grabs for the winners, it's a competition that you have to take seriously and we'll be doing just that."
The top team from each pool goes into the semi-finals in March.

Pool 1: Leicester Tigers, London Wasps, Newcastle Falcons, Cardiff Blues.
Pool 2: Saracens, London Irish, Leeds Carnegie, Dragons.
Pool 3: Northampton Saints, Gloucester Rugby, Sale Sharks, Scarlets.

Pool 4: Bath Rugby, Harlequins, Exeter Chiefs, Ospreys.

We must be thinking that we can reach the semi-finals with that draw. We won away games at Leeds and the Dragons last season; surely we can win against at least one of those in the LV=Cup this season. Then just make sure we win the homes games.

I agree. I know BR has to say things like that, but we should look on this draw as a real chance to get to the last four again.
If we don't, we need our collective bums kicking.
