The new season is getting ever closer, and the build-up is really gathering pace this week with Gloucester's first-ever public training session on Friday followed on Saturday by the first pre-season game, and the only one to be played at Kingsholm.

The session will no doubt be nothing like the full-on stuff that goes on at Hartpury, more an hour so of exhibition training with the players showing supporters the sort of stuff they can probably see in the hour before a competitive game if they can tear themselves away from the bar before the kick-off.
But it's not a bad PR exercise for the club, and the fact that the players will be available for photographs and autographs after the session is probably of more interest.
The club, rather unnecessarily, points out that entry is free of charge - as this is a PR exercise, charging for admission would be a scandal.
Hopefully, the idea will attract a good response, especially from younger fans who will get the chance to get close to the players, meet them and have their pictures taken with them.
Glaws quite rightly believe that the future of the club on the playing side lies in the academy and the way it is run. The future in the stands lies with those young people who will hopefully flock to the ground on Friday morning.
It starts t 9.45 am.
The club open day is on Monday August 30, again hopefully a magnet for young fans, with coach Bryan Redpath and members of his playing squad there to join in.
Glaws play the Scarlets at 3pm on Saturday, when we can expect both clubs to give as many players as possible a run out. Glaws make the short trip to Newport on Saturday August 21 for a 2 pm game against Ospreys, and on Friday August 27 the pre-season campaign ends with a game in Ireland against Munster.
