Just when the optimists were beginning to think that Gloucester might have turned the corner after their shaky start to the season, the collective cock-up of the European Challenge Cup performance in Agen provided evidence for the pessimists who refused to be persuaded the cherry and whites really were on the way back after the win at Bath.

Glaws came back from France with a losing bonus point, which is more than many teams will get after crossing the Channel this season, but coach Bryan Redpath and his players know that they were in a winning position and blew it through indiscipline.
Yellow cards for Mike Tindall and Peter Buxton made a hash of all the good work that had gone in earlier in the game, and now it’s up to the team to prove that the trip to France was a one-off rather than a sign of things to come.
And the chance to atone comes in the same competition this weekend, when Glaws host Rovigo on Saturday afternoon. They need a good win to rescue their Euro campaign and to set them up for the testing time come their way in the Premiership.
Coach Redpath was fuming after the Agen defeat and told the Citizen:
"We need to grow up. We need to think more and we need to cut out that kind of sloppy ill-discipline.
"At half-time, 13-3, we looked comfortable, but then it's two yellow-cards, and dull ones too.
"Nothing else lost us the game other than the fact that we had to play with 14 men for 20 minutes in the second half, that's a simple fact."
And just as simple is the fact that Glaws MUST win on Saturday and MUST win by a large margin.
Before the end of the month they have home Premiership games against Harlequins and Leicester, and they need to go into those games buoyed by the sort of good performance that saw them win at Bath, not held back by the dozy defeat at Agen.
