The RFU will be considering the potential impact of the announcement by London Wasps today of three England Senior Elite Player Squad players signing for French clubs at the end of this season.
It will be discussing internally and with Premier Rugby Ltd the possible long term effects on the English club game, the operation of the EPS programmes under the new eight year RFU/PRL agreement and the effect of the PRL 'revenue smoothing' arrangements on our clubs' abilities to remain competitive in the player market.
The policy matters involved will be discussed at the next scheduled RFU Management Board on Wednesday, February 25 and no further statement will be made un

Have these players signed or is someone negotiating a new contrac through the media?
There shouldn't be a huge problem if the players' contracts stipulate that they'll be free for all England training camps. Whether that's what's been agreed for the above three though, who knows.
Some reports are suggesting Haskell has agreed
a deal worth three times what he was on at Wasps.
It is worrying apparently.
But it might make him a better player, more head up,
and more of a thinking player. More French!
Because at the moment he is all talk.

According to RFU chairman Martyn Thomas,
"The French clubs pose a major danger", Thomas admitted to The Daily Telegraph. "If we were to get a situation where there are half-a-dozen players (that's just two more than at present!) based in France, it would undermine the whole concept of the elite player agreement.
"It's not something we envisaged when we sat down to thrash out the deal
So the elite player agreement is in tatters already because the daft bunch of old farts never considered that English players may leave the premiership to play in France (or the Magners). The staggering incompetence of the RFU surely knows no bounds, somebody please get them a job in a bank !

It didn't help that Wasps had to give £750,000 to the other clubs after the PRL decided that the money for playing England qualified players should be split evenly amongst the clubs.
