FOLLOWING a three-week break due to the Arctic conditions across the UK it was back to action at Butts Park Arena at the weekend.

The break didn’t come at a great time for the team as we were really starting to pick up some momentum and you could see the confidence growing in the squad.

Last week we had to focus back in our performance to ensure we didn’t slip up against a tough Tynedale outfit. Our home win on Saturday on a sticky pitch continued our run of wins but not in exactly the fashion we hoped for. It was clear to see we were a little bit off the pace and lacked accuracy and execution at crucial moments in the game.

It is however really positive to be writing this having secured a bonus-point win and with such room for improvement. We pride ourselves week in week out on our defence and last week we certainly didn’t hit the heights of our previous outstanding defensive displays we have seen from the team.

This made the Tynedale game more difficult than it needed to be as their scores resulted due to errors on our part, which we now have to put right prior to this week’s tough challenge against an in-form Rosslyn Park.

I am really proud of the boys in the way they responded to the two soft tries and the way we applied the game plan during the second half. Performance levels both individually and collectively have been improving over the last two months and I think it is testament to where we are as a group that there was an element of disappointment in our performance.

This week I have no doubt the focus, application and desire will be there in abundance and hopefully this will bring the best out of us all.

I would also like to say a big happy birthday to Ron, who celebrated his 65th birthday this week, from all the boys and everyone involved at Coventry Rugby.
