New investor has big plans for Gloucester

The new stand opened at Kingsholm for this season could be just the start of ambitious development plans for Gloucester outlined by the club’s newest benefactor. Martin St Quinton has bought a 25 per cent stake from Tom Walkinshaw, and says he plans to develop the other three sides of the stadium.
But the denizens of the Shed (right) need not worry – it will remain an all-standing area, with corporate facilities built above it, and there will be room for even more Shed-heads.
MSQ (it’s a lot quicker to type) has been talking to the Citizen, and if his plans come to fruition, every Glaws supporter will have reason to feel optimistic about the club’s long-term future.
He is a long-standing friend and business partner of TW, and appears to have the club’s welfare at heart.
He said: “It is a terrific club, it has a very long history, tremendous association. It’s a great rugby town.”
He says the fact that Glaws own the ground is of major importance, and added: “We want the Shed to be even more noisy in the future because we want to increase the capacity by 50% so it’s even more hostile to the opposing teams that come to Kingsholm.”
All plans for Kingsholm are subject to permission from the council, but it’s thought that this should not be a problem and work could start next summer.
MSQ made his initial fortune in an office equipment firm, sold it and became the new owners’ chief exec, then founded Azzurri Communications in 2000. The firm employs 700, but don’t ask us what they do ... communicate, probably.
